First Gundam Kit me and Ashlee worked on together. It is mostly done. Trying to figure out what to do with the eyes. He first time on the airbrush. That was fun. Here are some pics. Let us know what you think. We learned a lot on this kit.

Tutorial: Working with Testor's Metal Flake enamels

Well here is the first tutorial. For my tutorials I will be trying to explain as simple as possible and do them about things that I don't see to much online.

And now, for the main event. How to work with Testor's Metal Flake enamels.

The first thing you want to do is turn you pieces you are working with into a fancy goldfish. And by that i mean. mask off anything you don't want paint getting on.

Next is the decision time and probably testing time. The Testor's metal flake colors are very susceptible to the color that you paint them over. If do it over white they will be very bright and if you do like  I did in the second image and paint them over a light/medium blue they will be darker, and quite a bit for that matter.

They almost work like they are transparent colors. They are pretty thin out of the bottle so you won't need to thin them much. You want to go over your parts in many layers. This will give you a smoother look. Also make sure to get the coats even because any bit of fluctuation will end up showing in the finished part. After that put on a coat of clear (what ever you use). I use the Pledge Tile and Vinyl floor finish with Future care.(straight into the airbrush.).

The finished Product looks like this.

Review: SD AGE-2 Normal, Double Bullett - 76.3% , 77.5%

Now for the first review on one of my lady's kits. She makes those silly girl noises every time she sees a SD model. Now, while this is a terrible sound it does mean she has interest in the Gundam world and shows an actual want to learn how to build and paint them as well.

Kit: SD AGE-2
Cost: $16.00
Detail: 7/10
Color: Age-2 7/10 , Age-2 Double Bullet 8/10
Articulation: 6/10
Build Quality: 8/10
Weapons: 7/10
Other Stuff: 9/10
Cute Factor: 9/10
Fun: 8/10
Overall: 76.3% , 77.5%

DETAIL:  7/10
As far as detail goes it is normal SD quality. There are details where there needs to be and that is all. A few snap in color parts but most of the details will have to be hand painted if you want them to stand out.

COLOR:  7/10
Standard blue on white with yellow and red. Even though there are not that many pieces, it looks good. You do of course get the bits to build the Age-2 Double Bullet and get way more reds and I think this look better over all but the g/f wanted to build the one with the big wings. That is fine since we will be painting it anyway.

ARTICULATION:  6/10
It's an SD for goodness sake. It has a giant head that wobbles. Some parts are to loos and some to tight. No knees keeps the lower end pretty still while the upper bit has a little more to work with. Elbows are a good thing.

BUILD QUALITY: 8/10
I know this is a simple model and that build should be fine. For this little SD it is very good. Everything fits together great with one exception, the head. It wobbles. But after you paint it it tightens up just enough.

WEAPONS:  7/10
The weapon selection, while not great is ok for this cheap kit. You get a gun and a beam saber. You also get some more guns for the Age-2 Double Bullet

OTHER STUFF:  9/10
Here is some good stuff. You get enough things to build a different kit as well as parts to make core fighters for either of the bodies you decide to go with.

FUN:  8/10
It is a silly little kit that is fun to show people if only because if how silly it looks. The g/f was having a great time showing it off during the test build. once she gets some more kits under her belt I assume there will be epic, large headed, tiny battles.

CUTE FACTOR:9/10
I give this such a high grade here because it is pretty cute. I mean, come on. It has googly eyes. The age kits on a whole are meant more for kids so when you SD them of course they will be cute.

Overall:  76.3% , 77.5%
As a whole this kit is good times. Easy to build. Looks good. The only reason for the low scores is due to reasons you don't really look for to much in an SD Kit anyways.

Pictures of the painted kit on the way. Almost done with it.

Review: HG MS-06 Zaku the Ground War Set - 81.7%

Well here it is. My first review. The reviews will be broken down into a number for categories and then given a grade from 1-10. After this review the reviews will have tons of Images and way more description. This one will not due to the fact that this kit is being built and is in various stages of being screwed up.

Kit: HG MS-06 Zaku the Ground War Set
Cost: $26.50
Detail: 8/10
Color: 6/10
Articulation: 7/10
Weapons: 10/10
Other Stuff: 10/10
Fun: 8/10
Overall: 81.7%

So lets begin.
For once what is on the box is in the box. I mean all of it. Including the explosions!!!

DETAIL:  8/10
With the actual Zaku you get what you would expect out of a HG kit. It looks fine but everything is kind of flat. When just OOB snapped together it does look pretty good. I would give the actual MS in this a 6 or so but the reason for the 8 is everything else. The tanks look amazing. For as tiny as the little dudes are they look good as well. Oh yeah, and the mono eye will move if you take the top of the head off.

COLOR:  6/10
The colors on the Zaku and not to bad. What you would expect and when snapped together it looks pretty good. The rest of the kit is completely grey. I think this is fine because I will be painting this anyway. Some People just want to put it together and make then a nice battle scene.

ARTICULATION:  7/10
It is not to bad but could be better. If you move the leg anywhere to much you will pop a skirt piece off. The tanks swivel and the gun barrels wiggle. The feet of the Zaku do some very strange things if you want them to but it is a Zaku and they are not the most mobile of the mobile suits anyway.

WEAPONS:  10/10
There are a lot of weapons with this kit. You get little missile pods (missiles are removeable), Heat hawk, bazooka, machine gun, 2x expoly beatin' sticks, gernades, and even rockes with smoke trails for the bazooka. That Zaku is packin'.

OTHER STUFF:  10/10
Again this is where this kit gets high marks.  It comes with 2x tanks, 2x Wappas, some dudes, explosions, and more hands than Lord Ganesh himself. All you need to make a diorama out of one box.

FUN:  8/10
Over all this kit is great. The Zaku is a little limited but who cares. It is tromping around shooting tanks. Not trying to kick a gundam in the head. All is here to make a cool diorama. All is even better because you can get this on the cheap. $26.50 on amazon right now.

Overall:  81.7%
This kit is fun and easy to build. A great place to start. It makes you paint, it looks good and it comes with a ton of stuff for a good price. I hope I can get my hand on the other ground wars kit and make a really cool scene.

The beginning.

Well this is to be my gundam blog. It will include WIPs, completed models, anything I find interesting, reviews of kits from a noob, and some attempts at some learn as you go tutorials. I am new to this game and really enjoy it and would like to share all my screw ups with people (and there will be a lot).
